See what it's worth

TORO is a DEKA laser station that offers both picosecond and nanosecond emission at three wavelengths. Cartessa Aesthetics sells it in the United States and Canada. The FDA cleared it under K240752 on May 16, 2024. According to the 510(k) summary, Nd:YAG sources at 532 and 1064 nm operate in Q-switched mode with pulses of 5 to 12 ns. A titanium sapphire source at 785 nm runs in picosecond mode with pulses of 600 to 900 ps. The 1064 nm source also has a thermal mode with pulses of 0.1 to 0.3 ms. Energy travels through an articulated arm to the handpiece.

DEKA lists five accessory types: the Pico 785 nm handpiece with round spots from 2 to 6 mm, a round zoom handpiece covering 2.5 to 8 mm, square handpieces with spacers from 2 to 7 mm, a DEKA Peel handpiece for carbon peels, and fractional round handpieces at 8 and 9 mm. Cartessa adds a double pulse mode and describes magnetic plug-in handpieces with automatic spot recognition. In the clearance, the 785 nm output covers green and blue tattoo inks on Fitzpatrick types II to IV, while the 532 and 1064 nm outputs carry the same indications as the Quanta System Chrome, one of the predicates.

The nanosecond side of TORO closely matches the Quanta Chrome, another El.En. group platform, in the FDA comparison table, but only TORO has a 785 nm picosecond source. DEKA's older Studio offers only Q-switched 532 and 1064 nm and free running 1064 nm. The model label and the wavelength choices on the main screen settle which unit you have.

A dealer will want to know which handpieces come with the unit, especially the 785 nm picosecond handpiece and the fractional tips. Expect questions about pulse counts, the condition of the arm and handpiece optics, the software version, and recent service on the laser sources.
