DEKA Physiq

The original DEKA PHYSIQ is a body treatment system from El.En. built around four handpieces, each carrying two electrodes. The FDA cleared it as PHYSIQ under K202079 on November 25, 2020, as a powered muscle stimulator and TENS device. Cleared EMS uses include muscle re-education, relaxation of muscle spasms, increasing local blood circulation and prevention or slowing of disuse atrophy, and TENS mode is cleared for relief of chronic and acute pain. A second GUDID record under the same model number, M120F1, describes four infrared LEDs that apply topical heat for temporary muscle relief.

The clearance summary gives handpieces of 9 by 9 cm weighing 0.5 kg, an electrode area of 11 cm2 and output of biphasic rectangular pulses up to 50 V and 100 mA into 500 ohms, with pulse widths of 25 to 400 µs and frequencies from 3 to 200 Hz. Cartessa markets the system around STEP, short for Sequential Thermal and Electrical Pulse, which alternates heat and muscle stimulation. Cartessa notes the applicators have a cooling function and a patient control button.

The name now covers two different machines. PHYSIQ 360, model M134A1, was cleared under K231971 on September 26, 2023, and launched by Cartessa on April 25, 2024. It uses a 1060 nm diode laser through up to four 4 by 6 cm applicators for noninvasive lipolysis of the abdomen, flanks, back and thighs in people with a BMI of 30 or less, and adds EMS electrodes and a lymphatic drainage handpiece called PLUS. The original PHYSIQ's US records describe infrared LED heat and EMS, not a laser, so the model number on the label is the quickest way to tell them apart.

When selling an original PHYSIQ, confirm that all four handpieces and their cables are present and that every electrode surface and LED window is intact. Buyers will ask for the service history and software version. Photograph the serial label with the M120F1 model number, the main screen and each handpiece.
