The SmartXide Touch is a DEKA carbon dioxide laser emitting at 10.6 µm, delivered through a seven mirror articulated arm. The FDA cleared it under K172362 on November 17, 2017, describing a 40 W CO2 source with a HiScan DOT+ scanning unit and naming the AFFIRM CO2 and AFFIRM CO2 HP systems as predicates. A family clearance, K180193 in February 2018, added a 60 W Touch alongside the 30 W and 50 W SmartXide Punto. The scanner is cleared for ablative skin resurfacing.
DEKA's international brochure describes an RF CO2 source with PSD pulse shaping and a TEM00 beam. It lists five emission modes, CW, SP, DP, HP and UP, with continuous wave output from 0.5 to 60 W. The control panel is an 8.4 inch color touch screen with about 150 factory protocols that can be updated over USB.
The feature that most clearly identifies a Touch is the HiScan DOT/RF scanner. It combines the fractional CO2 beam with a radiofrequency source rated from 5 to 50 W, scans up to 15 by 15 mm in DOT, line, triangle, parallelogram, hexagon and square shapes, and can connect to a SmartCryo cooling unit. The US clearance names only the HiScan DOT+ scanner, so a unit with the RF scanner came from a market where that option was sold. The Punto looks similar but is rated at 30 or 50 W, and the Tetra PRO carries its own name and a Moveo mode.
When listing a Touch, state the power rating on the label, 40 W or 60 W, and which scanners and surgical handpieces are included. Buyers will ask whether the scanner is the DOT+ or the DOT/RF version, the condition of the arm mirrors and the scanner window, and when the laser source was last serviced. Provide the software version and service records, and photograph the serial label, the touch screen and the scanner.
