The DEKA SmartXide Tetra, sold in North America as Tetra CO2, is a 10,600 nm carbon dioxide laser made by El.En. and distributed exclusively in the United States and Canada by Cartessa Aesthetics. Cartessa introduced it together with the CoolPeel treatment in a release dated May 15, 2019. CoolPeel is a protocol, not a separate machine. It is a fractional ablative treatment that depends on the Tetra's H-pulse, a short pulse at high peak power, and Cartessa says it runs on the Tetra and on the DEKA HELIX.

The FDA's GUDID database holds two records for the original SmartXide Tetra. Model M118C1 is described as a CO2 system with 30 W maximum power, and M118D1 as a CO2 system with 50 W maximum power. Cartessa's own material describes the original Tetra as a 30 W laser with adjustable pulse duration, power and density, so the model number on your label tells a buyer which output you actually have.

The successor is the Tetra PRO, cleared as the Smartxide Tetra Pro under K240497 on March 12, 2024. Its clearance lists 40 W maximum output, pulse durations from 0.02 to 70 ms and a seven mirror articulated arm. DEKA's Tetra PRO brochure adds a DOT PRO scanner with a maximum area of 20 by 20 mm and a Moveo in-motion emission mode alongside the SP, DP, HP and CW modes. Cartessa says the PRO raised power from 30 W to 40 W. If Moveo appears in the mode list, the unit is a Tetra PRO, not the original.

When you list a used Tetra, give the model number from the label and say whether the scanner, its spacers and the surgical handpieces are all present. Buyers will ask for the service history, including any work on the laser source, and the installed software version. Photos of the serial label, the startup screen, the scanner head and each handpiece let a dealer confirm the configuration before quoting.
