The Motus AZ+ is the dual wavelength member of DEKA's Motus line, built around a 755 nm alexandrite laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. The FDA cleared it as the DEKA Motus AZ under K211821, a Special 510(k) decided on July 6, 2021, with the Motus AY as its predicate. Cartessa Aesthetics announced the AZ+ for the United States and Canada on May 20, 2022. Its cleared indications are the same as the AY's.
What sets the AZ+ apart is its set of four Moveo handpieces. Moveo HR handles hair removal at both wavelengths. Moveo PL uses the alexandrite source for pigmented lesions, while Moveo SR, for skin revitalization, and Moveo VL, for vascular lesions, both run on the Nd:YAG. Each Moveo has a cooled 20 mm sapphire tip that stays in contact with the skin and is moved continuously over a small area. The system also accepts ten standard stamp handpieces from 2.5 to 20 mm with automatic spot recognition.
The AZ+ sits between the AY and the Motus PRO. Against the AY, the FDA filing lists a restyled chassis, cover and interface, a cabinet of 114 by 45 by 94 cm at about 100 kg, Moveo spots of 7 and 14 mm on the alexandrite side and 5 and 14 mm on the Nd:YAG side, and a new optional spacer. The AY had only the 14 mm Moveo spot. The Motus PRO family, cleared in June 2024, extended stamp handpieces to 24 mm and raised the repetition rate to 12 Hz, so a unit offering 22 or 24 mm spots is not an AZ+.
Because the SR and VL handpieces are what separate an AZ+ from a lightly equipped AY, list each Moveo by name and photograph its label. Buyers will inspect the sapphire tips and the delivery fiber. Have the service history ready with screen photos showing the software version, plus the serial label.
