Candela GentleYAG Pro

The Candela GentleYAG Pro is a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. FDA's device database lists the GYAG Pro U console (model 9914-CH-9020) under K033172, the GentleYAG family clearance decided in October 2003. That summary describes a flashlamp-excited Nd:YAG laser with a lens-coupled, user replaceable fiber and handpiece, a footswitch or handswitch, and an optional cooling device. Cleared uses include hair removal and pseudofolliculitis barbae on Fitzpatrick types I to VI, vascular and pigmented lesions including leg veins, and soft tissue coagulation.

Candela's GentleYAG Pro-U specifications list up to 80 J of delivered energy and pulse durations from 0.25 to 100 ms. Standard spots are 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 18 mm. An optional small spot delivery system adds 1.5, 3 and 5 mm plus a 3 x 10 mm spot, and a large spot system adds 20, 22 and 24 mm. Cooling is either the cryogen-based Dynamic Cooling Device or an Air Cooling Compatible handpiece. FDA's device listings show GentleYAG delivery systems sold by spot set, with and without DCD.

What sets this console apart from its siblings is the single wavelength. The GentleLase Pro runs a 755 nm alexandrite laser, and the GentleMax Pro carries both 755 nm and 1064 nm. Candela offered a 755 nm upgrade that converts a GentleYAG Pro-U to the full GentleMax Pro configuration, so if your screen offers 755 nm, the unit has been upgraded and should be described that way.

FDA's device database shows the GYAG Pro U console leaving commercial distribution in October 2024, which puts more weight on the documents you can hand over. Buyers will want the service records, the pulse count, any upgrade paperwork, and an inventory of delivery systems noting which have DCD. Report the condition of the replaceable fiber and the handpiece optics, and photograph the model label and the screen.
