Exceed is a powered medical microneedling device that Candela markets in the United States. Its FDA clearances were filed by MT.DERM GmbH, the German manufacturer. The first, K180778 from September 2018, covers wrinkles in the glabellar frown lines, periorbital lines and cheek folds for Fitzpatrick skin types I to III in adults aged 22 or older. The second, K182407 from July 2019, adds improving the appearance of facial acne scars in skin types I to IV. Candela's sales material describes Exceed as cleared for both facial wrinkles and acne scars.
The 2019 summary lists seven components: a control unit, a sterile single use safety needle cartridge, a handpiece, a handpiece holder, a handpiece cover, a footswitch and a power supply. The control unit sets needle stroke frequency between 100 and 150 Hz on a digital display. A motor in the handpiece drives the needles, and a dial with a printed scale sets needle protrusion from 0 to 1.9 mm. The standard cartridge holds six stainless steel needles 1.5 mm long, screws onto the handpiece, and is used once. The device cannot treat without a fresh cartridge.
A later model, Exceed Unlimited, was cleared under K233709 in February 2024. It drops the separate control unit and cord: the handpiece runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery, shows frequency on its own display, and uses a barrier sleeve. It takes the same six needle cartridge and carries the same indications. If your handpiece is tethered to a desktop control unit with a footswitch, you have the original Exceed. A cordless handpiece with a charger is the Unlimited.
For a sale, list the control unit, handpiece, holder, footswitch and power supply, and say whether the handpiece motor runs smoothly across the full frequency range. Count unopened cartridges and record their expiry dates. Photograph the labels on the control unit and handpiece, and include any service history.
