CO2RE Intima is the gynecologic and genitourinary configuration of Candela's CO2RE platform rather than a stand-alone laser. Syneron Candela launched it at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting in March 2016, describing it as part of the CO2RE platform aimed at treatments of the vaginal and vulvar tissue. The console underneath is the CO2RE, which FDA's 2018 summary K181523 describes as a computer controlled, radio frequency excited carbon dioxide laser at 10,600 nm, with a control unit, six handpieces and an articulated arm whose lenses carry the beam to the tissue.
The clearance groups indications by handpiece and by specialty. Its gynecology section covers laser incision, excision, ablation and vaporization of soft tissue for conditions such as cervical, vulvar and vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia, condyloma, leukoplakia and urethral caruncle. FDA's GUDID database lists the Intima specific parts under the same clearance: an internal Intima handpiece, an external Intima handpiece, an Intima hygienic accessories kit (KT77003), five packs of internal hygienic covers (KT76616) and five packs of external hygienic covers (KT76685). GUDID marks the covers and the current external handpiece as single use, and the external parts as sterile.
If you are not sure whether you own an Intima system, look for these parts. A CO2RE that shipped for dermatology carries the standard, fractional and surgical handpieces, while an Intima system adds the internal and external gynecologic hardware. Older parts appear in GUDID under Syneron Medical, and current ones under Candela Corporation, so either name on a label is normal.
Buyers will want to see each Intima handpiece and any sealed cover packs counted and photographed, along with their lot or expiry labels. Beyond that, the questions match any CO2RE: the condition of the articulated arm and its joints, the service record for the laser source, the software version, the dermatology handpieces included, and photos of the console serial label and the mode selection screen.
