The CO2RE is a radio frequency excited carbon dioxide laser that works at 10,600 nm and sends its beam through lenses in an articulated arm. It was developed by Inlight Inc. of San Diego, which Syneron acquired at the end of 2008, and Syneron announced FDA and Health Canada clearance along with the North American launch on November 30, 2010. The platform does both fractional resurfacing and traditional fully ablative work, and the operator adjusts ablation intensity, pattern and depth.

Clearance K181523, issued to Candela in July 2018, describes the system as a control unit plus six handpieces and gives separate indications for the Standard, Fractional and Surgical handpieces. An expansion announced in November 2015 brought the indication count above 90, including gynecology. Physicians describe fractional modes named CO2RE Light, CO2RE Mid and CO2RE Fusion, the last of which places a deep central spot inside a shallower ring in a single pass, along with deeper settings and full coverage resurfacing. An incisional handpiece is used for procedures such as blepharoplasty.

CO2RE Intima is not a separate laser. Syneron Candela introduced it at the 2016 American Academy of Dermatology meeting as a gynecologic and genitourinary application running on the CO2RE platform, and FDA's device database lists single use internal and external hygienic covers for it in five packs, the internal version under KT76616. If your system was sold as a CO2RE Intima, gather the Intima hardware and any unopened covers and list them with the console. The system launched under the Syneron name, while the 2018 filing came from Candela Corporation.

A dealer looking at a CO2RE will start with the handpiece list: which of the six are present, and whether the fractional and surgical handpieces both work. After that come the articulated arm, the service record including any work on the laser source, the software version and a screen photo showing the available modes. Photograph the serial label as well.
