Candela GentleLase Pro-U

The GentleLase Pro-U is a single wavelength 755 nm long pulse alexandrite laser that can be upgraded later to add 1064 nm. Syneron, which then owned Candela, announced the global launch of the Pro-U series at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology congress in Prague in September 2012. The announcement framed the upgrade as turning the console into a dual wavelength system with essentially the same capabilities as the GentleMax Pro. Candela still lists the GentleLase Pro-U as an upgradeable, standalone 755 nm laser.

The product brochure gives up to 53 J of delivered energy at 755 nm, pulse durations from 0.25 to 100 ms, and a lens-coupled fiber with handpiece triggered by finger or foot switch. Standard spots are 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 18 mm. Two optional delivery systems extend the range: a small spot set at 1.5, 3, 5 and 3 x 10 mm, and a large spot set at 20, 22 and 24 mm. Buyers choose between cryogen Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) handpieces and Air Cooling Compatible (ACC) handpieces. The brochure lists the cart at 107 x 46 x 69 cm and 118 kg, and the 1064 nm upgrade at up to 80 J.

FDA's GUDID database gives the Pro-U its own console model numbers, 9914-00-9030 and its regional variants such as 9914-12-9030 and 9914-16-9030, listed under the GentleLASE family clearance K140732 and still in commercial distribution. The older GentleLase Pro carries 9914-00-9015. If the screen offers 1064 nm, the upgrade has been installed and the unit should be described as upgraded, with paperwork.

Buyers will ask for the pulse count, service history and software version, which delivery systems are included, and whether each handpiece is DCD or ACC. Describe the fiber and handpiece windows, the cryogen canister if DCD, and any upgrade invoices, and photograph the model label and the main screen.
