Candela GentleYag Pro-U

The GentleYAG Pro-U is Candela's standalone 1064 nm long pulse Nd:YAG laser in the Gentle Pro series, built so that a 755 nm alexandrite module can be added later. Syneron introduced it together with the GentleLase Pro-U at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology congress in September 2012, saying owners could convert either unit to a dual wavelength system matching the GentleMax Pro. Candela's current marketing still describes it as an upgradeable, standalone 1064 nm laser.

Its brochure lists up to 80 J delivered energy, pulse durations from 0.25 to 100 ms, repetition up to 10 Hz, and finger or foot switch control through a lens-coupled fiber and handpiece. The standard delivery system covers 6 to 18 mm. Optional sets add 1.5, 3, 5 and 3 x 10 mm small spots, or 20, 22 and 24 mm large spots, and each handpiece uses either cryogen DCD or Air Cooling Compatible (ACC) cooling. The same brochure lists pseudofolliculitis barbae and nail fungus among its uses. FDA's K140122 from May 2014 covers the nail indication for the GentleMAX family at 1064 nm using a 5 mm spot, 0.3 ms pulses and 15 to 18 J/cm2.

GUDID lists the Pro-U console as model 9914-00-9020, with variants 9914-12-9020, 9914-15-9020 and 9914-16-9020, under K140122 and in commercial distribution. That separates it from the older GentleYAG consoles in the 9914-xx-09xx range and from the GentleYAG Pro listed as 9914-00-9320. If 755 nm appears on the screen, the alexandrite upgrade is installed and the unit now matches the GentleMax Pro configuration, so say so and include the upgrade paperwork.

Buyers will want the pulse count, software version and service record, the delivery systems in the sale and their cooling type, and the condition of the fiber and handpiece windows. If you have DCD handpieces, note the cryogen canister level. Photograph the model label and main screen.
