Cynosure SmartLipo Triplex

Smartlipo Triplex is the three wavelength version of Cynosure's Smartlipo laser lipolysis workstation, which delivers laser energy through a fiber inside a cannula placed under the skin. Cynosure's annual report for 2011 dates the launch to October 2009, and trade press covered the release that November. Triplex added 1440 nm to the 1064 nm and 1320 nm of the Smartlipo MPX. FDA cleared the configuration in September 2009 under K091537, which describes one Nd:YAG crystal rod producing all three wavelengths in a 285 pound console that needs a 220 V, 20 A single phase supply.

Cynosure's MultiPlex sequencing lets the operator fire one wavelength alone or combine two, such as 1064 nm with 1440 nm or 1064 nm with 1320 nm. ThermaGuide is a cannula with a thermal sensor that shows subcutaneous temperature on the console screen, and it uses a 1 mm fiber instead of the smaller 600 micron one. ThermaView is a thermal camera that maps skin surface temperature. The 2009 clearance covers surgical incision, excision, vaporization, ablation and coagulation of soft tissue, and laser assisted lipolysis.

The Triplex is easy to confuse with two siblings. An MPX has the same console but only 1064 nm and 1320 nm. The Cellulaze and PrecisionTx systems, introduced in 2011 and 2013, use the same El.En. SLT II laser source that Cynosure builds into the Triplex, with its own software and delivery systems. Check the wavelength options on the main screen and the name on the serial label before you list it.

Cynosure describes Smartlipo fibers as consumables, and FDA's device database lists single use fibers with RFID in 600 micron and 1000 micron sizes, along with ThermaGuide cannulas in 150 mm and 250 mm lengths. List the fibers, cannulas and handpieces you have and whether a ThermaView camera is included. Buyers will also look at the service history, any work on the laser source, the software version.
