Cynosure Palomar StarLux 300

StarLux 300 is the name Palomar Medical Technologies later gave to its original StarLux, a modular platform in which one base unit runs both filtered pulsed light handpieces and laser handpieces from a single power supply. Palomar launched the StarLux in February 2004 and began shipping it in June of that year. Compared with the earlier EsteLux and MediLux consoles, it added more power, a color touch screen, automatic handpiece recognition and integrated contact cooling. FDA cleared the StarLux Pulsed Light System under K033549 in March 2004. Cynosure took over the line when it bought Palomar in 2013.

Practices bought the base and added handpieces over time, so configurations vary widely. Palomar's StarLux 300 page lists the LuxR and LuxRs for hair removal on large and small areas, the LuxY and LuxYs for finer and lighter hair and pigment, the LuxG for vascular and pigmented lesions, the LuxV for acne and lighter pigment, the Lux1064 long pulse Nd:YAG laser for hair and leg veins, and the Lux1540 fractional non-ablative laser for resurfacing and scars. The Lux1064 was cleared in January 2005 and the Lux1540 began shipping in June 2006. Palomar's chart puts the LuxR at 650 to 1200 nm.

In February 2007 Palomar introduced the StarLux 500, with 70 percent more power and faster treatment, and kept offering the original alongside it as the StarLux 300. Palomar's figures give the 300 a repetition rate of up to 2 Hz and a weight of 29 kg, against up to 3 Hz for the 500, which also used a separate chiller and cart. Newer handpieces such as the Lux1440, Lux2940 and LuxDeepIR appear on the StarLux 500 list rather than the 300 list.

List every handpiece by the name on its label and photograph its contact window. The pulsed light handpieces contain lamps, so record any shot count the system shows, along with the base serial label, software screen and service history.
