Cynosure Cynergy

Cynergy is Cynosure's vascular workstation, a single console that holds two lasers: a pulsed dye laser and an Nd:YAG laser. The FDA summary for the original Cynergy, cleared under K043429 in January 2005, lists dye wavelengths of 585, 590, 595 and 600 nm alongside 1064 nm, a weight of 285 lb, and operation on either 110 or 220 volt power. Cynosure's filings date the launch to February 2005 and describe the system as a combination of the company's VStar pulsed dye laser, introduced in 2000, and its Acclaim 7000 Nd:YAG laser.

Several features separate Cynergy from a plain dye laser. Cynosure describes SixPulse technology, which splits one long dye pulse into six micro pulses, and a choice of five spot sizes selected by swapping headpiece components. In June 2005 FDA cleared the Cynergy Multiplex laser under K050779, which can fire one wavelength or deliver a dye pulse followed quickly by an Nd:YAG pulse.

The name covers more than one configuration, so be specific. Cynosure's filings list Cynergy III, which adds an intense pulsed light module to the two laser system, and a separate pulsed light product called Cynergy PL. FDA's device identifier database lists two console assemblies: the Cynergy Laser Assembly, model 100-7002-180, and the Cynergy PDL Laser Assembly, model 100-7005-180, which is described there as a dye laser system. Check the model number on the rear label, whether the screen offers 1064 nm and Multiplex modes, and whether a pulsed light handpiece is present.

Dye lasers carry service items that a buyer will ask about directly. Give the date of the last dye change and flashlamp replacement, the pulse counts, and any recent work on the delivery system. List every spot size headpiece and handpiece tip you have, describe the condition of the handpiece window, and photograph the label, the main screen and the software version so the configuration can be confirmed.
