The Elite MPX is a Cynosure aesthetic workstation that carries a 755 nm alexandrite laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser in one console. Cynosure launched it in March 2009, the same month FDA cleared the Elite MPX Laser System with XPL Handpiece under K090235, and its filings describe a built in Zimmer SmartCool skin cooling system. The MPX name refers to blending the two lasers: in addition to switching between them with a button, the practitioner can combine the two energy sources in one treatment protocol. The clearance lists the 755 nm laser for hair reduction in skin types I to IV and the 1064 nm laser for a longer list that includes leg veins.

The XPL handpiece is what makes some units different from others. It is a pulsed light handpiece that the 2009 clearance covers for hair reduction, vascular and pigmented lesions and inflammatory acne. A second clearance in May 2009, K091169, covers the Elite MPX Laser System with Cryo C.

The Elite MPX sits in the middle of a long family. Before it came the Apogee Elite, launched in March 2004 with the same two laser types and a 15 mm spot. After it came the Elite+, cleared in 2014 with spot sizes from 3 to 24 mm, and the Elite iQ, introduced in 2020 as the next generation of the Elite+. FDA's device identifier database lists the Elite MPX Laser Assembly as model 100-7009-010 and lists a 20 to 24 mm handpiece tip shared by the Elite+ and Elite MPX, so tips alone will not identify the console. Read the label.

Buyers will ask for the pulse counts for each laser, the service history, the state of the cooling unit, and the condition of the handpiece. List every spot size tip, say whether the XPL handpiece is included, and photograph the label and the screen showing the software version.
