Cynosure Elite+

The Cynosure Elite+ is a two laser workstation that houses a 755 nm alexandrite laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser in one cabinet. The FDA record for the Elite+ Laser System is K141425, a Special 510(k) decided on September 11, 2014, which modified the earlier Apogee Elite. Indications at 755 nm cover permanent hair reduction in skin types I to VI including tanned skin, vascular lesions, benign pigmented lesions and wrinkles. The 1064 nm side adds leg veins, warts, scars and pseudofolliculitis barbae among others.

The 2014 submission is mostly about spot size. Cynosure added four larger handpieces at 18, 20, 22 and 24 mm and made small changes to the alexandrite rod diameter and lamp fill pressure to drive them, leaving the Nd:YAG head unchanged. The full list of spot sizes in that summary is 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 22 and 24 mm. The console runs on 208 or 240 volt power with a 30 amp circuit and weighs about 180 pounds.

The Elite+ sits between two relatives. The Apogee Elite before it offered spots of 3 to 15 mm, including a 12.5 mm size, so an 18 mm or larger handpiece suggests an Elite+. The Elite iQ that replaced it in 2020 was cleared with a 2.5 mm smallest spot, and fluence up to 600 J/cm² against 300 J/cm² on the Elite+. Check the name on the label and the start screen, since the cabinets look alike.

This model is no longer the current generation, so buyers focus on maintenance. Have records of flashlamp and service work ready if you kept them, and give the pulse count and software version. Name every handpiece by spot size and note any chips or cloudiness on the windows. Photos of the serial plate, the screen and each handpiece in good light let a dealer judge the unit without an inspection visit.
