See what it's worth

The LaseMD Ultra is Lutronic's second generation 1927 nm thulium laser for non-ablative fractional resurfacing. Lutronic unveiled it in December 2019 with live demonstrations at the Cosmetic Surgery Forum in Nashville and expected US clearance in the first quarter of 2020. At launch the company described a 20 W maximum output, a larger spot size than the original LaseMD, a top hat beam profile and a display that gives the operator feedback during treatment. Cynosure Lutronic still lists both figures and describes no per procedure shot limit.

FDA's device database lists the US console as LaseMD Ultra U120V, along with a dedicated Ultra handpiece assembly, a footswitch and a remote interlock key. The treatment tips appear as blistered square, comb and roller sets and a C5 tip assembly, and each of these is marked single use. That makes tips an ongoing supply cost for the practice. Cynosure Lutronic also promotes a Cosmeceutical Delivery System approach, pairing treatment with LaseMD ampoules such as tranexamic acid, vitamin C and retinol formulations.

The Ultra replaced the first LaseMD, cleared in 2017, and the two share a name and wavelength. The power rating is the clearest difference: FDA records list the original US console as a 5 W unit, and the Ultra is rated at 20 W. Tip names differ as well. Original LaseMD tips were called Cap 100 and Cap200, while Ultra tips use the square, comb, roller and C5 names. The console label and startup screen show which one you own.

Single use tips mean a buyer will separate the console from the supplies. Count unopened square, comb, roller and C5 packs and note their dates. Report the condition of the handpiece and fiber, whether the feedback display works, the software version and the service record. Add photos of the U120V label, the main screen and the handpiece.
