Lutronic Clarity

Lutronic's original Clarity is a dual wavelength long pulse laser that pairs a 755 nm alexandrite resonator with a 1064 nm Nd:YAG resonator in a single console. FDA cleared it on November 22, 2013 under K130199, where it is listed as the CLARITY LPC Laser System, with Candela's GentleMAX family as the predicate device. Light travels through a user replaceable optical fiber to a handpiece. Pulses fire from a finger switch or footswitch at up to 10 Hz.

The 2013 summary gives spot sizes of 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20 mm at both wavelengths, pulse durations from 0.35 to 300 ms and a maximum fluence of 600 J/cm². Epidermal cooling comes from Lutronic's Intelligent Cooling Device. Cleared indications at both wavelengths include hair reduction on Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI, benign pigmented lesions, vascular lesions and wrinkles. The 1064 nm side also lists pseudofolliculitis barbae, soft tissue coagulation and reduction of red pigmentation in hypertrophic and keloid scars.

Owners often confuse it with the Clarity II, and the spot size list is the simplest test. The original stops at 20 mm, while the Clarity II, cleared in 2019, offers 16, 22 and 24 mm spots, pulses as short as 0.1 ms, a skin temperature readout and IntelliTrak roller tips. A console with a 20 mm maximum, no temperature display and no roller tips matches the first generation.

This platform has been in clinics for more than a decade, so its history carries a lot of weight with a buyer. Record the pulse count, when the fiber was last replaced and when the cooling device was last serviced, and write down any error messages that appear at startup. List every handpiece and spot size accessory that ships with the system. Photos of the serial number label, the main screen and the fiber connection let a dealer judge condition before quoting.
