See what it's worth

Define is an InMode facial workstation that pairs operator held handpieces with hands-free applicators worn on the face. InMode's annual report lists bipolar radiofrequency as its energy source and gives 2023 as the year the platform was introduced. The FDA cleared the Define System under 510(k) K242598 on November 14, 2024. The filing describes a 33 kg console with two RF generators, four applicator connectors and a 12 inch touch screen.

InMode's product page names four modalities on Define: Morpheus8 for fractional radiofrequency microneedling, Forma as the operator held bipolar RF handpiece, and two hands-free pieces called Define Cheek and Define Chin. According to the annual report, the Cheek device holds eight applicators and the Chin device holds two. The 510(k) also covers a MiniFX applicator and lists Morpheus8 tip heads with 12 and 24 pins. Cheek, Chin and Forma are cleared for temporary relief of minor muscle aches and pain, relief of muscle spasm and temporary improvement of local blood circulation. The Morpheus8 applicator is cleared for procedures that call for coagulation or contraction of soft tissue or hemostasis.

The platform most often confused with Define is Evoke, an earlier InMode face system that the FDA cleared in October 2019 under K191855. Evoke ran the same Cheek and Chin headsets but none of the operator handpieces. If your console came with only the two hands-free pieces, check the serial label before you list it to rule out an Evoke.

The FDA device database lists Morpheus8 tips as sterile, single use parts, so a buyer prices them apart from the console. Note any sealed tips with their pin count and expiry date. A dealer will also look at the condition of the Cheek and Chin headsets and their cables, the Forma and Morpheus8 connectors, the software version, the service record and any error codes. Photos of the serial label, the main screen and every applicator let a buyer confirm the configuration.
