The Lumenis AcuPulse is a computer controlled CO2 laser built around a DC excited, sealed off laser tube. It delivers up to 30 or 40 watts on tissue, depending on the configuration, at a wavelength of 10.6 micrometers. The FDA cleared it in December 2008 under K082809 as the next generation of the Lumenis Compact 20C, 30C and 40C lasers. It kept their console and articulated arm while adding a revised interface and SurgiTouch scanner taken from the UltraPulse SurgiTouch.

For aesthetic work the AcuPulse uses two scanners. The AcuScan120 is a fractional scanner, and Lumenis lists a Deep mode example with a 120 micrometer spot. The SurgiTouch scanner handles conventional resurfacing with 125, 200 and 260 mm handpieces. Lumenis advertises eleven built in modes, including Deep, Superficial, Combo and FeatherTouch. There is also a 125 mm incisional handpiece. A 2021 clearance, K212703, added the FemTouch and FemX gynecological handpieces.

The name covers several consoles. In 2018 Lumenis renamed the AcuPulse 30/40ST as simply AcuPulse, a model with a free beam port and articulated arm only. The AcuPulse 40WG has only a fiber port, and the AcuPulse DUO, cleared that year, has both ports. AcuPulse W systems followed in 2020. The UltraPulse line is a different design. Lumenis describes UltraPulse lasers as using a radio frequency modulated tube, while the AcuPulse tube is DC excited, so the two should not be listed interchangeably.

To value an AcuPulse, a buyer first needs the wattage, 30 or 40, and which ports are on the console. After that comes the accessory list: AcuScan120, SurgiTouch and its handpiece lengths, the incisional handpiece and any FemTouch or FemX pieces. Ask your service provider for the tube's history and recent power calibration records, and check the articulated arm for smooth movement. Photos of the rating label, the main screen and each scanner make it easier for a dealer to confirm the configuration.
