Venus Concept Venus Viva

The Venus Viva is a compact fractional radiofrequency system from Venus Concept for skin resurfacing. RF energy passes through a tip of fine pins into the skin, and Venus Concept calls the approach NanoFractional RF, with SmartScan software setting the pattern. The fractional part first reached the US market as the Venus Viva SR, cleared under K150161 on May 12, 2015, as a console and one applicator with a detachable electrode tip, for dermatological procedures requiring ablation and resurfacing of the skin.

K191065, decided on April 1, 2020, cleared the Venus Viva in its two applicator form. It added the DiamondPolar applicator from the Legacy BX to the Viva SR console, and both can be connected at once. According to the filing, the Viva applicator runs at 0.46 MHz with up to 62 mJ per pin over a 1.33 cm2 footprint. The DiamondPolar runs at 1 MHz with up to 75 W and 15 Gauss magnetic pulses, and is cleared for moderate to severe facial wrinkles in women with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV. The Viva tips have stainless steel pins in a plastic base, are single use and arrive non sterile, so the practice autoclaves them before use.

Three related products share this technology. A Viva SR has the fractional applicator only. The Viva MD, cleared in June 2020, adds an 80 pin tip at up to 124 mJ per pin, while Venus Concept's annual reports give 160 pins per tip for the Viva. The Venus Versa uses the same fractional applicator on a larger IPL console. The FDA device database lists the Venus Viva as model VI102402.

When you list a Viva, say whether the DiamondPolar applicator is included and count any unopened tips. Note the condition of both applicator cables and the touchscreen, and whether the system has been serviced. Photos of the label, the screen and both applicators help a buyer confirm the version.
