Venus Concept Venus Velocity

The Venus Velocity is a floor standing diode laser for hair removal, emitting at a nominal 800 nm. The FDA cleared it under K162765 on January 11, 2017, for hair removal, permanent hair reduction and treatment of pseudofolliculitis barbae across all Fitzpatrick skin types, including tanned skin.

The system has one detachable applicator and three interchangeable sapphire tips. The small tip is 13 by 13 mm (1.69 cm2), the medium is 13 by 27 mm (3.5 cm2) and the large is 20 by 35 mm (7.0 cm2). FDA records list pulse durations of 5 to 170 ms, repetition up to 10 Hz and 2400 W of peak power, with fluence up to 100 J/cm2 on the small tip and up to 20 J/cm2 on the large one. The diode array sits inside the applicator rather than the console, and a water circuit with a pump chills the applicator and tips. Venus Concept's product page describes PULSE and SLIDE operating modes, cooling that checks applicator temperature 1,000 times per second, an internet connectivity module and a weight of 35 kg.

The Velocity's closest relative is the Venus Epileve, cleared in 2020 with the Velocity as its predicate. The Epileve is a tabletop unit with one fixed 2.0 cm2 light guide and 1600 W of peak power. A console on its own base with three swappable tips is a Velocity.

The applicator is where most of the value sits, because it houses the laser diodes. A buyer will want all three tips, free of chips or cracks on the sapphire, a cooling circuit that reaches temperature without leaks, and a working trigger and emergency stop.
