Venus Concept Venus Freeze

The Venus Freeze is a radiofrequency system from Venus Concept that the FDA cleared under K100586 on November 29, 2010, for non-invasive treatment of mild to moderate facial wrinkles and rhytides. The 510(k) describes a console with a touchscreen for setting treatment time and power, an RF power module producing a 1 MHz signal, a controller unit and two applicators: OctiPolar, with eight electrodes for large areas, and DiamondPolar, with four electrodes for small areas.

A second clearance, K111670 on March 2, 2012, covered the Venus Freeze (MP)2, which added pulsed magnetic fields. In that version the OctiPolar has eight electrode coils plus a central coil and the DiamondPolar has four coils, with the RF still running through the electrodes. Its indication is moderate to severe facial wrinkles in women with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV. Venus Concept later sold a Freeze Plus, which its 2019 annual report describes as having automatic temperature control and internet connectivity. The FDA device database lists the Freeze (MP)2 as model FRWMUS250025E and the Freeze Plus as model FRP00002.

The line continued in the Venus Legacy BX. Its 2014 clearance describes the BX as a Freeze (MP)2 with a new outer design and the same technology and components, which is why OctiPolar and DiamondPolar applicators appear on both. A Freeze has no vacuum applicators, so a console with 4D Body or 4D Face applicators is a Legacy. The model number on the rear label separates the original Freeze, the (MP)2 and the Plus.

Confirm that both applicators are present, that the electrodes are clean and undamaged, and that the cables and connectors are intact. Say whether the touchscreen starts without errors, when the unit was last serviced and which Freeze version is on the label.
