Fotona StarWalker QX
Sell your used Fotona StarWalker QX.
The StarWalker QX is the standard Q-switched model in Fotona's StarWalker line. Fotona's current brochure says the line comes in two models, the QX for core treatments and the more advanced MaQX Pro. The FDA device database lists it as model M031-3A/2 QX, a record published on August 29, 2017 that cites K171227, the StarWalker family clearance decided on August 18, 2017. Inside, one flashlamp pumped Nd:YAG cavity produces 1064 nm, and a KTP crystal doubles it to 532 nm. An articulated arm carries the beam to a variable spot handpiece.
The K171227 summary gives family limits. At 1064 nm it lists Q-switched pulses of 5 to 20 ns at up to 1.6 J and long pulses of 0.6 to 50 ms at up to 15 J, at up to 15 Hz. At 532 nm it lists up to 0.6 J Q-switched and up to 2 J in 15 to 50 ms pulses. The aiming beam is 635 nm. Optional dye converter handpieces shift 532 nm to 585 nm or 650 nm, and Fotona's brochure lists Q-switched operation at those two wavelengths.
Several Fotona lasers share this design and part of its model number. The older QX MAX appears as plain M031-3A/2, and the K171227 comparison table lists the QX family it belonged to with push button controls, while the StarWalker uses a touch screen. Other StarWalker suffixes are MAQX for the higher energy model and PQX and PICO Pro for the picosecond units. When FDA cleared the MaQX in 2017, Practical Dermatology reported that the VERDE 532 nm mode was exclusive to it, so a QX should not offer VERDE.
Read the full suffix on the rear label and compare the mode menu against it. Then list each handpiece, including the 585 and 650 nm dye handpieces. Buyers will ask about arm condition, flashlamp service, software version and service records. Photos of the label, main screen and each handpiece speed up an offer.
