Fotona SP Dynamis

SP Dynamis is Fotona's combined Er:YAG and Nd:YAG laser, pairing a 2940 nm erbium source with a 1064 nm neodymium source in a single console. It first appears in FDA records under K101306, the Fotona Dynamis Er:YAG/Nd:YAG Laser System Family, cleared on July 1, 2011. That family had five configurations: XS Dynamis with Er:YAG only, XP Dynamis with Nd:YAG only, SP Dynamis with both, and the XP Spectro and SP Spectro, which use a smaller housing and lower Nd:YAG power.

The SP Dynamis name has stayed in use across hardware generations. Fotona's 2015 Dynamis Pro filing, K143723, compared the newer family with the 2011 systems and recorded push-button control on the originals against an LCD touchscreen on the Pro family. The FDA device database still lists SP Dynamis as model M021-4AF/3. The control panel is the quickest clue. Buttons point to an early unit, while a touchscreen points to a Pro era or later system.

Each wavelength has its own delivery path. Er:YAG passes through an articulated arm to a handpiece or scanner, and Nd:YAG passes through an optical fiber. Fotona lists Er:YAG handpieces such as the R04-Ti with five spacers from 3 to 12 mm, the R11 with a variable 2 to 7 mm spot and the R08 surgical handpiece. The Nd:YAG side also runs a QCW surgical mode, which Fotona fits as standard on SP Dynamis and as an option on SP Spectro.

An older SP Dynamis is often sold with whatever accessories a practice collected over a decade, so an itemized list matters more than usual. Note whether scanners such as the S-11 or F-Runner are included, and whether fibers for the QCW surgical handpieces are present and undamaged. Buyers also want service records and the date the laser last fired. Photos of the serial label, the control panel and each handpiece's part number help a dealer place the unit in the right generation.
