Fotona StarFormer

StarFormer is not a laser. It is a Fotona muscle stimulator that drives alternating current through a coil, producing a rapidly changing magnetic field that makes the underlying muscle contract. Fotona calls the technology high intensity Tesla magnetic stimulation, or HITS. The system is sold for two kinds of treatment. TightWave works on muscles of the abdomen, glutes, arms, back and hamstrings with handheld applicators, and IntimaWave seats the patient on a chair with coils in the seat and back for the pelvic floor. Fotona's StarFormer PRO combines both.

FDA cleared StarFormer and TightWave in September 2023 (K221274) for muscle stimulation in rehabilitation and for toning and strengthening of the abdomen, buttocks and thighs. That summary lists symmetrical biphasic pulses at 1 to 80 Hz, a field of up to 2.2 T, a touch screen and a 50 kg console. A July 2024 clearance (K234061) covered the chair for pelvic floor stimulation to treat urinary incontinence in women, at 1.8 T. In March 2025, K241785 added TENS pain relief modes for model M008-3T with the handheld applicators and a Chair Back applicator.

Fotona's brochure lists the IntimaWave Chair, the Applicator Radial Large and the Applicator Radial XLarge, which is 23.5 cm across, as accessories, plus a holder for limb treatments. Its Quattro modality runs four applicators at once. The console takes 100 to 240 V and draws 1500 VA. The FDA device database has two StarFormer records under model M008-3T, one of them branded QuantumStar, StarFormer.

The configuration decides what the system can do, because a console without the chair cannot run IntimaWave treatments. Tell buyers how many applicators come with it, which sizes they are, and whether the chair and Chair Back applicator are included. Check the coil cables for damage. Photograph the rear label with the M008-3T model number, the main screen and every applicator, and include the service history.
