See what it's worth

The Quanta System Thunder MT is the dual source version of the Thunder Series, combining a 755 nm alexandrite laser with a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. The MT version uses Quanta Mixed Technology, which Quanta offers only on this version; other Thunder units carry a single source. Quanta lists fluence up to 500 J/cm2 at both wavelengths, pulse widths from 0.3 to 300 ms, and repetition rates up to 10 Hz with handpieces or up to 15 Hz with the OptiScan TH scanner. The FDA cleared the Thunder family, listed as Thunder, Thunder VT and Thunder HR, under K171711 on July 7, 2017, as a modification of Quanta's EVO family.

Cleared 1064 nm uses include benign vascular lesions such as port wine stains, telangiectasia, leg and spider veins, benign pigmented lesions, wrinkles, pseudofolliculitis barbae and permanent hair reduction on Fitzpatrick I to VI. At 755 nm the clearance covers hair reduction on all skin types, vascular lesions, benign pigmented lesions and wrinkles. Quanta describes a super elliptical spot shape, standard handpieces with spots up to 24 mm, and the OptiScan TH, a scanner handpiece for semi automatic coverage of wide areas.

Cooling comes from Qool-air, a dedicated cold air unit controlled from the laser screen. Quanta also sells the Duetto MT EVO, which offers the same two wavelengths and Mixed Technology. Duetto differs by having an integrated contact skin cooler and a Twain connector for IPL and Er:YAG handpieces, and a 10.4 inch screen against the Thunder's 12 inch screen.

For a Thunder MT, list each handpiece by spot size and say whether the OptiScan TH and the Qool-air unit are included, since they are separate pieces of hardware. Buyers will ask about the condition of the fiber or delivery system, the service history of both laser sources, and the software version. Screen photos showing both wavelengths available, the serial label and the cooling unit's label help a dealer value the system.
