Quanta System 585

The Quanta System 585 is a compact yellow laser built for benign vascular lesions. It comes from Quanta System of Samarate, Italy. In its 510(k) summary, Quanta calls the 585 a diode laser used mainly in dermatology, and its product pages call it a yellow solid-state laser. The FDA cleared it under K172198 on October 17, 2017, for benign vascular and benign pigmented lesions. The predicates were two Asclepion lasers, the QuadroStarPRO and the YellowStar.

The hardware is simple compared with a flashlamp-pumped dye laser. The summary describes a front panel with a touchscreen, status LEDs and an SMA 905 fiber connector. A key switch and an emergency stop sit on top, and the footswitch and remote interlock connect at the rear. Inside are the laser source with its heat dissipation, an aiming beam, the control electronics and the power supply. Quanta says the laser needs no warm-up and markets it as requiring no routine maintenance. Energy reaches the skin through the fiber, either to single-spot handpieces or to the OptiScan scanner. The OptiScan has its own touchscreen, eight scanning patterns and four filling modes for managing heat distribution.

Do not confuse the 585 with Quanta's other vascular options. The Rosso is a 694 nm Q-switched handpiece for Quanta's Q-switched platforms, and the Suprema family uses pulsed Nd:YAG, 532 nm and alexandrite sources. The 585 is a standalone fiber-delivered console, and the model name on the label settles the question.

Before an offer, a buyer will want to know whether the OptiScan scanner is included and working, which single-spot handpieces come with the unit, and the condition of the delivery fiber and its SMA connector.
