Sciton Joule
Sell your used Sciton Joule.
The Sciton JOULE is a modular laser and light platform that Sciton builds in Palo Alto, California. Sciton announced it in February 2009 as a console with four laser bays and a pulsed light bay, delivering energy through an articulated arm, a fiber or BroadBand Light (BBL). The FDA cleared the JOULE Multi-Platform System under K101916 on March 18, 2011. That clearance covers 755, 1064, 1319, 1470, 1550 and 2940 nm laser sources, a Q-switched 1064/532 nm option and BBL from 300 to 1400 nm. Each console carries only the modules the original practice bought, and more can be added later.
The nine modules offered at launch were Contour TRL, ProFractional and ProFractional XC on the 2940 nm erbium source, ClearScan at 1064 nm, ThermaScan at 1319 nm, BBL, SkinTyte, ProLipoPlus for laser lipolysis and Pro-V for endovenous ablation. HALO, the hybrid 1470 and 2940 nm fractional module, followed in 2014. The Clear Suite brought the ClearV and ClearSilk 1064 nm handpieces, BBL HERO arrived in 2020, and HALO TRIBRID was announced in 2025.
The JOULE X, shown at the ASLMS meeting in March 2019, is the upgraded version of the platform. Sciton listed keyless, password protected push button entry, a large capacitive touch screen and Sciton iQ cloud analytics among its changes, so the start up method and screen are useful clues. The mJOULE is a different, smaller platform that runs on 110 volt power, while the JOULE needs a 200 to 240 volt, 20 amp circuit. The Profile was the platform that came before the JOULE.
A buyer will want the full module list as the system reports it, not a list from memory, along with photos of the serial label and each handpiece, scanner and BBL filter in the box. Sciton has described a no consumables policy for the JOULE, so value sits in the installed modules, the condition of the arm and erbium components, and documented Sciton service. Note whether any modules were factory upgrades.
