Cutera excel V+

The Cutera excel V+ is a solid-state laser platform that combines a 532 nm green laser with a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser in one console. Cutera announced its global commercial launch on February 26, 2019, at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting, presenting it as the successor to the original excel V. Cutera produces the 532 nm output with an LBO (lithium triborate) crystal, and the system needs no dye kits. Its FDA GUDID record lists the excel V+ Laser System under 510(k) K132185, part of Cutera's Family of CoolGlide Aesthetic Lasers clearance.

A fully equipped excel V+ uses four delivery options. The CoolView handpiece carries both wavelengths, can switch between them during a session, and has sapphire contact cooling that Cutera lists as adjustable from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius. The Laser Genesis handpiece delivers micro-pulsed 1064 nm energy, while the Green Genesis procedure uses micro-pulsed 532 nm. The Dermastat is a small 532 nm tracing handpiece made in 1 mm and 2 mm spot versions for small vascular and pigmented lesions.

Sellers sometimes cannot say whether they own an excel V or an excel V+. Three features belong to the V+ only: spot sizes that reach 16 mm, compared with a 12 mm ceiling on the excel V; the Dermastat handpiece; and Green Genesis. Cutera also quoted 50 percent more 532 nm power for the V+ at launch. A console labeled excel V+, or one shipped with a Dermastat, is the newer system.

Before making an offer, a dealer will want to know which of the four handpieces are present and whether the Dermastat came in the 1 mm size, the 2 mm size or both. Inspect the CoolView sapphire window for chips or scratches, because it touches skin on every pulse. Share the software version, service records and any shot or usage counter shown on screen, and photograph the serial label on the console along with each handpiece.
