See what it's worth

The Cutera AviClear is a dermatology laser with one output wavelength, 1726 nm, generated by an infrared indium phosphide diode. FDA cleared it for mild to severe inflammatory acne vulgaris under K213461 on March 24, 2022, naming Candela's Smoothbeam as the predicate. Cutera's annual report for 2022 says the system had a limited commercial release in April 2022 and an official launch that November, and was sold in the United States and Canada.

The laser, optics and cooling sit in one touchscreen console. Energy leaves through an optical fiber handpiece that contains a scanner, a sapphire contact window held between 0 and 5 °C, and pressure sensors that block emission until the window rests firmly on the skin and the footswitch is down. The first 510(k) lists a 3 mm spot or a 10 mm hexagonal array of seven spots, pulses up to 50 ms and up to 5 J per pulse. In July 2025 FDA cleared a modified version, K251149, that adds a Large handpiece with a 3 mm by 3 mm square spot and rectangular arrays of up to 25 spots and cuts the post-treatment cooling time from 2 seconds to 1. That filing calls the earlier handpiece the Universal handpiece.

Ownership is the first thing to sort out. Cutera originally placed AviClear under its Avi360 program, which paired an annual license to use the device with a fee for every patient treated. It later announced a model that lets practices own the system with lower per-treatment pricing. A console sitting in your office is not automatically yours to sell.

Before you list it, confirm with Cutera whether you hold title or a license and whether any agreement transfers to a new owner. State which handpieces you have, Universal, Large or both, along with the software version. Dealers will also ask about the sapphire window, the fiber, error history and service records, and will want photos of the serial label and home screen.
