Wontech V-LASER

V-LASER is a long pulse Nd:YAG platform from Wontech that produces both 1064 nm and 532 nm. Wontech describes it as a long pulsed 532 nm KTP and 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser, and the FDA filings call it an Nd:YAG laser operating at both wavelengths. The system has a main body, an optical fiber cable, a handpiece the user cannot detach, a handpiece tip, a footswitch and a cable cradle. Fluence, frequency and pulse settings are made on an LCD touch pad that also reports pulse count and spot size.

V-LASER has gone through three US clearances, and each one changed the hardware. The first, K183156 in April 2019, named Cutera's CoolGlide family, which includes Excel V, as predicate. That build had a Dynamic Cooling Device spraying HFC 134a cryogen onto the skin, spot sizes from 2 to 20 mm plus an 8 mm Genesis spot, and up to 50 J at 1064 nm and 10 J at 532 nm. Maximum pulse durations were 60 ms at 1064 nm and 40 ms at 532 nm. The second, K221427 in August 2022, removed the gas cooling and narrowed the spots to 2 to 12 mm. The third, K231054 in August 2023, describes a cooling system in the handpiece and broadens the cleared indications.

The 2023 indications at 1064 nm include benign vascular lesions such as port wine stains and leg veins, benign pigmented lesions, wrinkles, hair reduction, pseudofolliculitis barbae and mild to moderate inflammatory acne, with coagulation of vascular and cutaneous lesions at 532 nm. If your unit has a cryogen canister and spots up to 20 mm, it is the 2019 build. A 12 mm maximum spot points to 2022 or later.

The handpiece is permanently attached, so its condition and the fiber's matter more than usual. On early units, say whether the cryogen system works and whether canisters are included. Photograph the serial label, the spot selection screen and the handpiece tip.
