Wontech PICOALEX

PICOALEX is a picosecond alexandrite laser from Wontech of South Korea, described by the company as a picosecond 755 nm alexandrite laser. Its 755 nm source sets it apart from Wontech's PICOCARE picosecond lasers, which use Nd:YAG. The FDA cleared it under K243957 in March 2025, using Cynosure's PicoSure as its sole predicate.

Inside, an alexandrite rod is pumped by two xenon flashlamps in a water cooled housing. An electro-optic modulator and polarizer in the cavity produce the picosecond pulses, and a sealed metal cover keeps dust and humidity off the optics. Energy travels through an articulated arm to a handpiece and fires from a footswitch, and treatment settings are made on a graphical touch interface. The clearance lists up to 300 mJ per pulse, pulse widths of 600 to 800 picoseconds, repetition rates of 1 to 10 Hz, a zoom handpiece from 2 to 8 mm and a microlens array (MLA) handpiece from 3.5 to 8 mm. PICOALEX is cleared for tattoo and benign pigmented lesion removal, including Nevus of Ota, Hori macules and melasma.

Do not confuse it with Wontech's SANDRO DUAL. That system also has a 755 nm alexandrite source, but it is a long pulse hair removal platform with millisecond pulses and fiber delivery, not an articulated arm. PICOCARE 450 and PICOCARE MAJESTY are picosecond lasers too, but they emit 1064 nm and 532 nm from Nd:YAG. The model label and the wavelength on the start screen settle it.

PICOALEX received its US clearance only in 2025. A buyer will want the shot count, the flashlamp history, any alignment work on the articulated arm and the condition of the zoom and MLA optics. Say whether both handpieces are included, and photograph the serial label, the start screen and each handpiece.
