BTL Emtone
Sell your used BTL Emtone.
BTL launched Emtone in August 2019 as a cellulite device, a year after its Emsculpt muscle system. Emtone combines two energies in one treatment: monopolar radiofrequency heating and a mechanical pulse BTL calls targeted pressure energy. A 2021 technical paper on the device explains how they are produced. The radiofrequency runs at 447 kHz and leaves through a solid metal electrode resting on the skin, with the current returning through a grounding pad. The pressure component is pneumatic: a compressor in the main unit drives a floating projectile inside the handpiece toward the applicator tip, which passes the impulse into tissue.
Both energies come from the same handpiece. The paper describes capacitive buttons and a small display on the handpiece, along with impedance sensing and real-time temperature monitoring. In the FDA GUDID, the console appears as EMTONE and the handpiece as EMTONE applicator, model BTL-284-01, both under product code PBX, the category for radiofrequency heat devices with massage, with records published in August 2019.
Emtone should not be confused with Exilis Ultra 360, another BTL platform that pairs radiofrequency with ultrasound and uses large and small applicators. GUDID also lists a BTL Unison console from October 2018 whose applicator carries the same BTL-284-01 model number. The quickest check is the handpiece: an Emtone handpiece has the BTL-284-01 model number, combines the electrode and pneumatic tip in one body, and works with a grounding pad.
The applicator is the part a buyer will look at most closely. BTL's engineers wrote that the moving parts that carry radiofrequency energy through the applicator were designed for a warranty of up to 1,000,000 shots, so the shot count on the handpiece matters as much as the console's age. Include the handpiece serial label, the grounding pad and cables, and a photo of the electrode face. Note whether the compressor runs without errors, and add the software version and service history.
