BTL Emsella

Emsella is BTL's chair-based pelvic floor system, built on the company's high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology, which BTL brands HIFEM. A 2019 peer reviewed study of the device describes a flat spiral coil mounted inside the seat of the chair, powered from a separate main unit and producing a rapidly changing field of up to 2.5 T. The patient sits upright on the seat while the field stimulates the pelvic floor muscles. The FDA GUDID lists BTL EMSELLA as a prescription device under product code KPI, the category for non-implanted stimulators used for incontinence. Earlier versions of the same device identifier appear from January 2017 as the HPM-6000U, which FDA cleared in December 2016 (K162010) for pelvic floor stimulation to treat urinary incontinence in women.

A complete system has two pieces: the main unit, which contains the generator and touch screen controls, and the chair applicator connected to it by cable.

Three related BTL products are easy to confuse with the original chair. In March 2020 BTL introduced an Emsella applicator for its Emsculpt platform, also rated up to 2.5 T, so a pelvic floor applicator that plugs into an Emsculpt console belongs to that product rather than a standalone Emsella. In February 2025 FDA cleared the BTL-398 under K241516, a chair system whose seat height and coil position adjust by remote control and whose cushion circulates air to help hold the patient in position. GUDID also added a separate EMSELLA DUO record in August 2026. A remote and an air cushion mark the later design, so mention them if your chair has them.

Photograph the serial labels on the main unit and on the underside or back of the chair. Upholstery tears, seat cracks and cable wear all show in photos. A buyer will also ask for the software version, any treatment or session count the screen reports, service records and whether the system has moved since its last service.
