See what it's worth

The Rohrer Spectrum is a multi-technology console that runs five treatment modules: intense pulsed light, an 810 nm diode laser, a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm and 532 nm, a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser and an Er:YAG laser. Rohrer markets the diode for hair removal, the Q-switched YAG for tattoos, the long-pulsed YAG for spider veins and angiomas, and the IPL and Er:YAG for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. The FDA's GUDID database lists the device as Spectrum Laser/IPL, model Spectrum, with Rohrer Aesthetics, LLC as labeler, a record first published in September 2016.

GUDID does not give a 510(k) number for the Spectrum. A related clearance exists: K123777, decided in April 2013 for a MultiLaser System from UltraLight Laser Technologies, filed from Rohrer's Birmingham address with Mark Rohrer as contact. It describes one console with four handpieces: an Er:YAG at 2940 nm with 1.5, 3, 6 and 9 mm spots; an Nd:YAG at 1064 nm and 532 nm with spots up to 5 mm; an 810 nm diode with a 14 by 10 mm spot; and an IPL covering 450 to 1200 nm with a 35 by 15 mm window. Rohrer's Spectrum page does not cite that clearance, so treat the link as something to confirm with paperwork.

What distinguishes a Spectrum is the number of handpieces on one console. The PicoLazer is Rohrer's separate picosecond laser at 1064 nm and 532 nm with an articulated arm, and the Phoenix is a standalone CO2 laser. A Spectrum that has lost one or two modules is still a Spectrum, but the buyer will value it on what is actually present.

List every handpiece by name, any IPL filters or Er:YAG tips, the footswitch and the power cord. Dealers will ask for shot or usage counts where the software shows them, the condition of each handpiece window and cable, the year on the serial label and service history.

What moves your number on this model:

  • Handpiece completeness: IPL, 810 Diode, Q-Switch YAG, Long Pulsed YAG, Erbium YAG
  • Counter readings
  • Service history
