CoolTone is a magnetic muscle stimulation system that Allergan markets under its CoolSculpting brand. It passes a strong current through a coil inside each applicator to create a pulsed magnetic field, which fires motor nerves and makes the muscle underneath contract involuntarily. FDA files list Zimmer MedizinSysteme GmbH of Neu-Ulm, Germany as the 510(k) holder and classify the device as a powered muscle stimulator under product code NGX. Allergan announced the clearance in June 2019 and said the first units would ship early in the fourth quarter of that year.

The console is a wheeled floor unit with a 12 inch color touchscreen and two outputs. Two large applicators connect to it and can run at the same time, held against the body by a securement system rather than an arm. The November 2019 clearance, K192940, lists a field intensity of 0.5 to 1.35 tesla at the applicator, pulse rates from 1 to 150 Hz, sessions of up to 30 minutes and three preset programs for the abdomen, buttocks and thighs, which match its clearance for abdominal toning and for strengthening and firming the buttocks and thighs.

CoolTone grew out of Zimmer's emFieldPro, which drove one large and one small applicator, one at a time, through cables fixed to the console. CoolTone's applicators are detachable. A 2022 clearance, K220601, covers a redesigned applicator meant to cut treatment interruptions caused by applicator warmth, and a January 2026 clearance, K253408, added rehabilitation style indications such as relaxing muscle spasms. CoolTone is a separate machine from the CoolSculpting cryolipolysis systems, even though the two share a brand.

Before an offer, a buyer wants to know how many applicators come with the console and whether they are the original or the revised design, along with the condition of their cables, connectors and straps. Photos of the serial label, the touchscreen at startup and any stored error messages help, as do service records and the date of the last applicator replacement.
