CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is the original cryolipolysis system developed by Zeltiq Aesthetics, a company founded in 2005 as Juniper Medical and acquired by Allergan in February 2017. A portable control unit cools fat bulges through applicators whose thermoelectric panels carry sensors that monitor the skin and adjust cooling. In 2010 the FDA cleared it for skin cooling and then for the appearance of flanks. Later clearances added the abdomen in 2012, the thighs in 2014 and the submental area in 2015, and by 2017 the label included the upper arm, bra fat and banana roll.

Applicators changed several times, so the set that comes with a used unit hints at its age. CoolMini, a small vacuum cup for the area under the chin, appears in a September 2015 clearance. CoolSmooth PRO, a second generation surface applicator for fat that cannot be pinched, such as the outer thigh, was announced in January 2015. CoolAdvantage, cleared in November 2016, uses interchangeable contours based on the earlier CoolCurve+, CoolFit and CoolCore cups. CoolAdvantage Plus, for larger bulges, and CoolAdvantage Petite, for smaller ones, followed in July 2017.

The easiest way to separate a classic CoolSculpting console from a newer CoolSculpting Elite is the applicator count. A January 2020 clearance, K193566, describes the change that added a second vacuum and chiller subsystem and a control unit with two umbilicals so that two applicators could run at once. Elite applicators also carry short model codes such as C150 or F165 rather than the Cool names listed above.

Each treatment cycle is delivered from a cycle card, so ask whether any cards with unused cycles are part of the sale and how many remain. Buyers also check the service record, the gaskets, contours and cups on each applicator, and the umbilical hose. Photograph the serial label, the main screen and every applicator, and list the applicators by name.
