Solta Medical VASERlipo

VASERlipo is an ultrasonic system that fragments and emulsifies subcutaneous fat for aesthetic body contouring, then removes it by suction. It began with Sound Surgical Technologies, whose Sound VASER System received FDA clearance under K991791 on August 12, 1999. Sound Surgical later cleared the VASER 2.1 Lipo System under K110306 on June 23, 2011, and Solta Medical, which owns the brand today, cleared the current VASERlipo System under K190551 on May 1, 2019. Besides body contouring, the clearances list soft tissue fragmentation, emulsification and aspiration across several surgical specialties.

The system has two units that can be used together or separately. The VASER ultrasonic amplifier drives a handpiece and probe at a nominal 36 kHz. The VentX infiltration and aspiration console infuses fluid at 50 to 550 ml per minute and supplies suction of up to 20 inches of mercury through sterile tubing, a handle and cannulas. The 2019 clearance widened the cannula range to 1 to 6 mm in diameter and 7 to 40 cm in length, compared with 2.4 to 4.6 mm and 17 to 34 cm on the VASER 2.1.

Several generations are still in use, so the amplifier label matters. FDA's device database lists a VASER 2.2 system, VASER Pro amplifiers in 110 V and 220 V versions and a VASER Amplifier V2, along with refurbished VASER Pro and VASER 2.2 systems sold by Solta. Accessories listed include a VASER 4D Sculpt accessory kit, curved, angled and swan neck cannulas and a skin port incision opener. PowerX Lipo, cleared the same day, is a separate Solta system.

Buyers look first at the amplifier generation, the handpiece and the probe inventory. List each probe and cannula with its size, say whether the VentX console is included and whether its pump and suction reach their set values, and supply the service history with photos of every data plate.
