Solta Medical Clear + Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant is Solta Medical's low power, non-ablative fractional laser for general skin resurfacing. The diode source sits inside the handpiece, and an optical tracking system spaces the microscopic treatment zones as the handpiece moves across the skin. FDA cleared the first version, with a single 1440 nm handpiece, under K110349 on May 3, 2011, with the Fraxel IV SR as the predicate. A second clearance, K120433, followed on April 2, 2012 and added a 1927 nm diode handpiece as a line extension. Both are cleared for procedures requiring coagulation of soft tissue and for general skin resurfacing.

Solta's later filing gives the shared figures: peak laser power of 2.5 W for the 1440 nm handpiece and 0.9 W for the 1927 nm handpiece, which Solta calls Perméa, a 10 mm treatment width and coverage of roughly 4 to 12 percent. Both handpieces use removable, disposable contact tips, and FDA's device database lists a standard tip and a separate Perméa tip. Treatments are metered through a SmartCard, one per handpiece.

The successor, Clear + Brilliant Touch, was cleared at the end of 2022. The original console has a plain LCD screen and a single handpiece cradle, its handpieces fasten with screws and its tips have no vents. The Touch has a touch screen, two cradles so both handpieces stay connected, a latching handpiece connection, vented tips and a single credit key in place of the SmartCards.

A buyer of an original system will ask which handpieces come with it, 1440 nm, 1927 nm or both, and whether each fires normally. The SmartCards and any credit balance are a separate issue from the hardware, so describe what you have and ask Solta whether credits transfer. Add the console's serial label, the handpiece labels, a count of sealed tips by type and the service history, with a photo of the screen after startup.
