Solta Medical Clear + Brilliant Touch

Clear + Brilliant Touch is the second generation of Solta Medical's low power fractional laser for skin resurfacing. FDA cleared it under K223647 on December 29, 2022, with the original Clear + Brilliant as the predicate. The system has four parts: a console, a 1440 nm handpiece, a 1927 nm handpiece that Solta calls Perméa, and a credit key. Both lasers are solid state diodes housed in the handpieces. The cleared indications, unchanged from the original, are procedures requiring coagulation of soft tissue and general skin resurfacing.

Laser output did not change from the first generation. The 510(k) summary lists peak power of 2.5 W at 1440 nm and 0.9 W at 1927 nm, a 10 mm treatment width, 40 to 60 microthermal zones per square centimeter per pass at 1440 nm, 20 to 40 at 1927 nm and coverage of roughly 4 to 12 percent. The tip attaches mechanically and magnetically, and the laser will not fire until the tip is in contact with skin. Solta describes the guidance system as Intelligent Optical Tracking.

What changed is the console and its consumables. The Touch has a touch screen, two cradles so both handpieces can stay connected, a latching connection in place of screws and vented tips. Treatment credits load through one removable credit key that serves both handpieces and is thrown away when its balance runs out, where the original used a separate SmartCard for each handpiece. FDA's device database lists tips in 12 packs and a refurbished console and handpieces sold by Solta.

Buyers will ask which handpieces are included, whether both connect at once without errors and how the tips seat. The credit key and any remaining balance should be described separately from the hardware, along with sealed tip packs and their dates. Photos of the console label, both handpiece labels and the home screen help a dealer confirm that the system is a Touch and not an original console.
