Lynton LUMINA

LUMINA is a modular laser and IPL platform designed and built by Lynton in the United Kingdom. In 2017 Lynton announced a redesigned LUMINA with slimmer styling, describing it as combining five technologies on one stand-alone platform that owners can extend as their practice grows; the system already existed before that redesign. Lynton's product page lists a built-in patient database, a parameter printer and a large touchscreen.

Every LUMINA ships with two IPL handpieces, the 585 and the 650, which use Lynton's DynamicReflex technology to let the operator adjust pulse duration, peaks and delay, including sub-millisecond pulses. Lynton lists four add-on technologies. The ACTIVE Q-switched laser at 1064 nm and 532 nm is delivered through an articulated arm, powered by what Lynton describes as a patented power supply, rather than through a handpiece. A detachable long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG handpiece serves hair removal on skin types IV to VI, deeper vessels, skin laxity and fungal nails. A ResurFACE fractional Er:YAG handpiece at 2940 nm handles ablative resurfacing, and a 650 Advanced handpiece is offered for finer and lighter hair. Spot size changes by swapping a crystal tip, without changing the head.

LUMINA is easy to confuse with DYNAMIX, Lynton's 2024 platform, which also uses IPL, Nd:YAG, Q-switched and ResurFACE modules but adds a radiofrequency module and Interface Pro software. The console label is the reliable identifier. Because LUMINA was sold in configurations ranging from the two standard IPL handpieces to the full set of add-ons, the configuration is what a buyer prices.

List each handpiece and add-on, including whether the Q-switched arm is present, and the year of the console. Lynton notes that IPL lamps and filters are replaced in the field rather than handpieces being sent back for refurbishment, so record when lamps were last changed and which filters you have.
