Aerolase Neo V

The Aerolase Neo V is a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser in the current Neo line, positioned by Aerolase for vascular and pigmented lesions. Like the Neo Elite and Neo Derm, it uses the 650 microsecond pulse that defines Aerolase's lasers and works without contact cooling or cryogen. Aerolase's comparison table highlights leg veins, hemangiomas, edema and port wine stains among the Neo V's cleared uses and gives a typical session of 20 to 30 minutes, longer than the 10 to 20 minutes listed for the other two models.

The energy figures are what set the V apart. Aerolase publishes up to 255 J/cm2 at 650 microseconds, the same as its siblings, but up to 510 J/cm2 at 1.5 milliseconds, against 318 J/cm2 for the Elite and Derm. The trade off is speed: the V is listed at up to 1.5 Hz, while the others reach 2 Hz. Aerolase's 2012 clearance for its Nd:YAG lasers, K120235, describes the common hardware of an air cooled power supply unit, one handpiece on an umbilical cord and a front display panel, and lists vascular indications such as port wine stains, hemangiomas, telangiectasia, leg veins and spider veins across Fitzpatrick types I to VI.

Because all three Neo models share a wavelength and pulse width and look much alike, the label is the only dependable identifier. If the unit can be set to more than 318 J/cm2 at 1.5 milliseconds, that points to a Neo V. Older Aerolase units sold as LightPod Neo or LightPod Neo Elite belong to the same family under earlier names.

With one handpiece carrying the whole system, buyers will want clear photos of the handpiece window and tip, the umbilical cord along its length, the connectors and the power unit vents. Include the model and serial label, the display with any pulse count and software version, and service records, and note any faults or repairs.
