STRATA Skin Sciences XTRAC Ultra Plus

The XTRAC Ultra Plus is one of three XTRAC 308 nm excimer lasers STRATA Skin Sciences currently lists, alongside the Velocity and the newer Momentum. STRATA's annual reports from 2016 onward describe the Ultra Plus as a model marketed primarily in certain international markets and state that it, like the other two, is capable of treating psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis and leukoderma. The XTRAC line came to STRATA in a June 2015 asset purchase from PhotoMedex.

The XTRAC family history helps place it. PhotoMedex filings describe an original XTRAC laser, model AL 7000, followed by modifications cleared in August 2003 and marketed as the XTRAC XL Plus, then the Ultra, model AL 8000, cleared in October 2004, and the Velocity, model AL 10000, cleared in March 2008. PhotoMedex described the Velocity as the faster, more powerful successor to the Ultra. STRATA's filings do not give a separate model number or specification for the Ultra Plus, so the console label is the most reliable way to tell which generation a unit belongs to.

Because the Ultra Plus was sold mainly outside the United States, its commercial path differed from the domestic XTRAC fleet. STRATA's filings say international XTRAC lasers were sold as equipment through a master distributor and local distributors in more than twenty five countries until 2019, after which STRATA moved country by country to direct distribution with both equipment sales and recurring revenue. In the United States, most XTRAC lasers were placed at no upfront charge and remained STRATA property.

A seller should therefore start with proof of purchase and the country where the unit was installed. Photograph the model label showing the AL number, the serial number and the main screen. Buyers will also ask for the service history, the condition of the delivery system and handpiece, and which treatment tips come with the console.
