Astanza Eternity

The Astanza Eternity, which Astanza calls the EternityTSR, is a Q-switched ruby laser with a single 694 nm wavelength. Astanza offered it for tattoo removal and benign pigmented lesions. According to the specification table, it has a 40 nanosecond pulse, fluence up to 20 J/cm2 and a repetition rate of up to 2 Hz, and it runs on 230 volts at 11 amps. The standard square handpieces measure 2.5 x 2.5 mm, 4 x 4 mm and 5 x 5 mm, with a 6 x 6 mm handpiece optional. A MicroSpot handpiece spreads energy over 196 spots in a 14 by 14 grid across a 7.1 mm2 area.

Astanza positioned the Eternity as a companion to its Duality, which covers only 1064 nm and 532 nm. In Astanza's marketing, the ruby wavelength is the one for inks such as lime green, sky blue and teal that Nd:YAG wavelengths struggle with, as well as for dense black ink. The beam is square and homogenized.

The Eternity is also easy to confuse with the Astanza Trinity, which has a ruby source too. The Trinity puts Q-switched Nd:YAG at 1064 and 532 nm and ruby at 694 nm in one cabinet, and its ruby pulse is 30 nanoseconds, against 40 on the Eternity. A 2021 Astanza article described pairing a Duality with an Eternity as splitting the Trinity's capabilities into two separate machines. A seller with only one ruby wavelength on the screen has an Eternity, not a Trinity. Astanza now lists the Eternity as no longer available for purchase but says it still supports existing owners.

A buyer will want to know how many of the square handpieces and the MicroSpot handpiece are included, and what the shot counter shows. Ask for the service record, including any work on the ruby rod, flash lamp or cooling system,. Photos of the serial label, the screen and each handpiece lens are worth sending.
