Zimmer MedizinSystems Cryo 7

The Cryo 7 is a cold air skin cooling unit from Zimmer MedizinSysteme of Neu-Ulm, Germany, sold in the United States through Zimmer's aesthetic division. It blows chilled, dehumidified air onto the skin without contact, for use alongside lasers, IPL systems and injections. FDA cleared it in February 2022 under K220020 to minimize pain and thermal injury during laser and dermatological treatments and for temporary topical anesthetic relief for injections.

According to the 510(k) summary, the Cryo 7 is the same device as the earlier Cryo 6, cleared as the Cryo V6.0 in 2006, apart from branding and updated hardware, layout, software and display. A compressor, evaporator and condenser using R452a refrigerant cool the air to about minus 30 degrees C, and nine fan levels move roughly 210 to 600 liters per minute through the treatment hose. The unit weighs about 60 kg, stands on four casters and runs on a 100 to 120 volt supply.

The Cryo 7 is easy to tell from its predecessors. It has a 10.1 inch touchscreen, where the Cryo 6 has an LED panel and the Cryo 5 an analog display, and it stores more than 100 programs. Zimmer lists a hose of 8 feet 2 inches with a magnetic connection and a swivel point, a spring support arm, two air intakes, a standby mode and a narrow, taller cabinet of about 42 by 20 by 22 inches. Accessories include a 3 meter tube, a three joint tube arm and the Pro Therapy Hose, which puts start, stop and fan control on the handpiece.

Before an offer, a buyer will want to see the unit reach its operating temperature, check the hose and magnetic coupling for cracks, and confirm the air filter has been changed and the defrost water bottle drains properly.
