Vivace is a bipolar radiofrequency microneedling system made in South Korea. FDA first cleared it as the VIVACE Electrosurgical System on January 15, 2016 under K150409, with Sung Hwan E&B Co., Ltd. as applicant. It is cleared for electrocoagulation and hemostasis in dermatologic and general surgical procedures and for percutaneous treatment of facial wrinkles in skin types I to V. A later version, cleared April 26, 2021 under K193070, was filed by ShenB Co., Ltd. of Seoul through Aesthetics Biomedical of Phoenix, Arizona.
The system has a main body with an LCD touch screen, an RF generator and a power supply. The handpiece takes a disposable micro-needle cartridge, and treatment is started with a foot switch. Each cartridge holds 36 needle electrodes in a 6 by 6 grid, 0.3 mm in diameter, with exposed length adjustable from 0.5 to 3.5 mm in 0.1 mm steps. Bipolar energy passes between adjacent needle pairs. Cartridges are sterile, for single patient use and cannot be resterilized.
The two clearances describe two generations. The 2016 unit runs at 1 MHz and is rated for 230 volts. The 2021 unit adds a 2 MHz setting, is rated for 120 volts and lists a maximum output of 36 watts. Its 2 MHz setting is cleared only for electrocoagulation and hemostasis, not wrinkle treatment. If the screen offers both frequencies, you have the newer version. Vivace Experience is a treatment name used in marketing, not a separate machine.
The system will not treat without its single-use cartridges, so a buyer will ask how many sealed, in-date cartridges come with it. Other checks are whether the needle drive moves smoothly to set depths, the touch screen and foot switch, the handpiece cable and connector, and the voltage rating on the label. Photos of the rating label, startup screen and cartridge packaging help a dealer make a firm offer.
