See what it's worth

The Scarlet SRF is a bipolar radiofrequency microneedling system from VIOL Co., Ltd. of Seongnam, South Korea. FDA cleared it under K180872 on October 11, 2018 for electrocoagulation and hemostasis in dermatologic and general surgical procedures. The 510(k) summary describes it as basically identical to VIOL's earlier CELFIRM device, cleared in 2017 under K172023. The system has three parts: a main unit that generates the RF signal, a handpiece fitted with a tip, and a footswitch.

During treatment, the tip rests lightly on the skin with the handpiece held at a right angle. Needle electrodes in the tip penetrate the skin and carry RF energy between them, heating and coagulating tissue at depth. According to the filing, the tip is single-use and sterilized with EO gas, has gold-plated surgical stainless steel needles and covers a 10 by 10 mm area. Needle depth adjusts from 0.5 to 3.5 mm in 0.25 mm steps, and treatment can be started with a foot or finger switch. VIOL's later filing gives the SRF tip as a 25-pin electrode. A US distributor sells SRF tips in boxes of ten.

VIOL has several similar machines, so read the label. The Scarlet PRO, cleared in August 2026 under K253859, cites the SRF as its predicate and adds a 49-pin electrode, a larger spot option and 0.1 mm depth steps. It is started by footswitch only. VIOL's website also lists a Scarlet S, a 2 MHz model with 0.1 mm depth steps, and the company's separate Sylfirm X has its own FDA clearances.

The system needs its single-use tips to operate, so a buyer will ask how many sealed tips come with it and their expiry dates. Other checks are the needle drive in the handpiece, depth settings matched against the screen, the handpiece cable and connector, and the footswitch. Photos of the label and tip packaging confirm it is an SRF.
